How To Unlock Your Potential and Create Your Ideal Self

Chances are that, secretly, you know you are capable of so much more. Maybe you know exactly what you want to do – you already have an idea of your ideal life. But is it possible to unlock your potential and create your ideal self?

Perhaps you’re experiencing something like this – You know exactly what you need to do, and still, something is holding you back? If that’s the case, this article will give you some ideas on how to think less and act more, so as to unlock your full potential.

We will look at your potential in all areas of life – health, wealth, goals, relationships. Maybe you are already starting to unfold your talents in some of these? Or, maybe you are at the beginning of your journey and have only the strong inner voice telling you that you are capable of more.

Either way, you’re on your way to creating your ideal self. But how do you unlock all your potential to do so?

What Is Your Ideal Self?

Before we dive into the topic, let’s define what your ideal self is. Your ideal self is who you ultimately want to become. It’s the best version of you in every situation.

What your ideal self looks like is entirely up to you. It can begin anywhere, from losing weight, quitting smoking, or being more emotionally stable – to being the best friend or partner you could be.

But if you never thought about your ideal self before, you have to envision it first. Only when you know who you want to be can you actually become it.

Cary Grant said it best:

I pretended to be somebody I wanted to be until, finally, I became that person. Or he became me.

Your focus expands. So, if you have a clear vision of your ideal self and focus on it, you will ultimately become that person.

However, achieving your ideal self-state doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, it’s an ongoing process and you’ll probably never fully reach your ideal – your ideal self keeps growing as you grow. But it is this growth process that will give you fulfillment.

So, what you can do is aim towards your ideal self. In order to do so, you have to unlock your potential.

Everything you need is already inside you – you just don’t yet know how to use it. We want to show you how to unlock all your potential and truly go after your ideal.

Analyze Your Current Self

The first step to unlocking your potential and getting a sense of your ideal self is to analyze who you currently are. This takes deep introspection.

How do you act and behave currently? Do you like yourself? How much more potential do you think you have?

Be honest with yourself –  the more accurate your self-assessment is, the better you can work on unlocking your potential. This encompasses all areas of your life –  career, finances, as well as your feelings.

Your potential has many layers and your ideal self is your best self in all areas of life.  To begin moving towards this ideal, you need two things. You need a crystal clear idea of how your ideal self looks like, acts, and feels. The more vivid you see it, the better; drive comes from a vivid imagination.

The second thing you need is a clear idea of where you are right now. How far from your ideal self are you? What are the possible milestones on your journey?

Fake It Until You Become It

So, how do you actually unlock your potential? Maybe you have already heard the saying fake it until you make it. Pretending that you already are your ideal self could actually help you realize that goal.

But, fake it until you make it is actually not 100% accurate. It’s fake it until you’ve become it.

Amel Kilic often tells his students to envision the ideal life and live as if it already were true – challenge reality to catch up. But why does pretending like this actually work?

As human beings, we are controlled by our thoughts. Where our thoughts go, we go.

It’s likely that our subconscious mind can’t tell apart imagination and reality. So, if you keep envisioning and acting out certain things, they feel real to you.

At first, you might feel weird pretending. Slowly, however, what you envision will become your reality. To unlock your potential, start with your identity.

Questions For Self-Reflection

If you are just starting to unlock your full potential and create your ideal self, it’s best to take time for active thinking. Here are some powerful questions to ask yourself, and find out where you really want to be. They’ll also give you clarity on the potential you haven’t unlocked yet.

What would you do if money were no factor?

Many people feel forced to work in a job or in a profession because of money. Asking yourself what you’d do if you didn’t have to care about money will give you indicators of what you really enjoy.

Now, you still have to make sure you have enough money. It’s not enough to “follow your passion” and live on dreams. But knowing what you actually want to do will help you develop a plan to achieve your goals.

What would you attempt if you were guaranteed to succeed?

Most people are afraid of the unknown. Fear of failure is also a part of the fear of the unknown. What you really want to achieve in life, however, is likely beyond your comfort zone – it’s beyond the unknown.

Asking yourself what you would do if you were guaranteed to succeed allows you to remove the fear of the unknown. It gives you a glimpse into the life of your ideal self.
